Adam Hyland

Adam attended Victoria School from the age of two years and stayed until he completed his GCSEs at the age of sixteen. He then went on to study Computing at Bournemouth and Poole College for three years where he was awarded the Whitbread Young Sports Achiever and Poole’s Contribution to the Community Awards. Whilst there, Adam was the first Disabled Student Representative on the Student Council.

He then went on to read Internet Communication Systems at Bournemouth University where he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree. He was awarded Best Design, Engineering and Computing Student and the Vice Chancellor’s Award at his graduation.

Adam was elected Disabled Student Officer and ran the ‘Free to Pee’ campaign in Bournemouth, and ‘Mental Elf’, a campaign promoting healthy eating and exercise for mental and physical wellbeing. During this time, he was also elected by the National Disabled Student Conference on to the NUS Disabled Student Committee where he served two years supporting national campaigns and policy on disabled student rights in Higher Education.

He was then elected by the student body as President of the Student Union at Bournemouth University where he continued to smash preconceptions about what disabled people can achieve. Following his term as President, he was elected at National Conference as NUS National Disabled Students Officer.

Adam also sat as Trustee on the Disabled Students Allowance Quality Assurance Group in his role as NUS Disabled Students Officer, remaining as Trustee independently when the student term ended.

Adam runs two of his own businesses: Diversity & Ability and Connect to Independence.

In his limited spare time, Adam runs a local disabled football team, is a qualified FA coach, is Vice Chairperson for Poole Adventure Scouts, is a governor at Victoria Education Centre, and has a huge range of other fantastic achievements to his name.
