Vista Nova School

Victoria has been developing strong links with the Vista Nova School in Cape Town, South Africa. Our partnership started last year as part of an international themed term and our students had the opportunity to meet their contemporaries face to face via Skype. Our friendship has developed rapidly with both schools keen to work closely together.

The Vista Nova School provides education for students with Cerebral Palsy and other learning disabilities and was founded in 1954 by concerned parents whose children had Cerebral Palsy.

The school moved to its current site after being allocated funding by the government and the official opening took place on March 7th 1968. In 1989 the school established a separate campus and to date has a roll of 420 students and 120 staff. Unlike traditional community based schools, Vista Nova has learners from all over the Cape Peninsula. The school operates an extensive wheelchair equipped bus service providing transport to and from school.

Our students have engaged with Vista Nova across primary and secondary phases. A Governor visit has taken place to support and enhance the shared learning for both school communities. The focus has been on teaching global issues and developing communication and sharing skills. We look forward to a lasting connection with our friends at Vista Nova across the whole school and if any Vista Nova students are reading this, we send our best wishes to you!
