Whizz-Kidz

At our recent new opportunities event we forged some useful ties with Whizz-Kidz. Whizz-Kidz is a national charitable organisation whose mission is to transform the lives of disabled children by providing the equipment, support and life skills they need, when they need them, giving them the chance to develop their full potential. They provide disabled children and young people with vital mobility equipment, and life journey services, giving them opportunities to build friendships and have fun, and training to help them gain skills and look forward to a bright future.

They are currently running an Ambassador Club at Everybody Active in Parkstone. Whizz-Kidz offers:

Wheelchair Skills Training offering three levels of Skills: beginners intermediate and advanced to support wheelchair users up to the age of 25. Their training events are delivered by skilled and experienced Trainers who will ensure you receive the best training available.

Ambassador Clubs – (youth clubs) are a place for young wheelchair users aged 12 – 18 to meet up, make friends and have fun! They do everything from music, dance, art, sports, beauty therapy, cooking, trips and a whole lot more. They have a Poole and Bournemouth Ambassador Club that runs monthly.

Camps – Whizz-Kidz provides short residential camps for disabled young people. Camp Whizz-Kidz is designed for young people aged between 12-25 years old and who use a wheelchair or mobility equipment, or have a physical disability.

Work Placements – They offer a range of work placement and internship opportunities that are designed just for young disabled people age 16 to 25 years old.

Work Skills Days – these are days set up with one of their corporate partners for young people to learn key skills for the workplace. They have a Work Skills Day coming up in June at Bournemouth Tesco.

Young Leaders Programme – Every young person who joins a Whizz-Kidz Ambassador Club will have the opportunity to become a Young Leader and take part in the Young Leaderz Programme.

Regional Steering Group and Kidz Board – Whizz-Kidz has a Kidz Board, made up of disabled young people who each represent a different area of the UK. The Kidz Board meet four times a year, and have become a very influential group. They are currently developing regional steering groups across the country to feed in to Kidz Board.
