New Radio Station for School

We are delighted to announce that the school has successfully bid for funding to equip a dedicated ‘radio station’ in school which will be officially launched in 2013. The funding will allow us to buy a state of the art studio that our students can use to create programmes, conduct interviews and showcase their own music produced in their digital music classes. The programmes will initially be broadcast securely within school over the internet with the station being based near the MILE room so that anyone passing can make requests and dedications. Several students are already drawing up ideas for their own programmes. Principal Chris Davies, “Radio stations have become very popular in schools as they provide a fantastic opportunity for students to be involved in the planning, preparation and production of a live radio programme. What a great way to learn new skills in a fun, engaging and exciting environment. For our students I see it as a way for them to learn different communication skills and to improve confidence and self esteem. As well as the obvious radio shows the team who are developing this new venture aim to use it as a way of connecting the whole school community (and as we develop the world!) to showcase work completed in the classroom through podcasts and to share original music compositions”. In conjunction with this exciting news we will be running a competition among our students to come up with a name for our radio station.
