New School Library Opens

Today, we are pleased to announce the opening of our new school library, a major whole school resource. This project is the culmination of a big push to raise the bar on reading at Victoria over the last year and is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work by staff from many areas of the school.

The importance of reading cannot be overstated, from our earliest years, reading skills help us to develop and communicate. They allow us to process words and stimulate memories, and even broaden our imagination. They open the world to curious minds.

To help us celebrate, we welcomed some special guests to mark the occasion. Former student and poet Dave Young (The Shouting Mute) joined us to perform his latest poem and we were also joined by Vanessa Marsh from Pop-Up Bookshop, who have donated books.

Many people were involved in making this happen and we extend our grateful thanks to The Valentine Trust, Head of Literacy David Henley, Teacher Deanne Carr, Site Manager Stuart Williams and his team, Pop-Up Bookshop and the many staff members from the class and admin teams who gave generously of their time and effort. It really is an amazing space, which will allow us to plan future literary events with guest writers and storytellers.
