Secondary

Currently there are two secondary classes. Here you will find some information about each class.

Class CN

This year Class CN is for pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3. We have the same teacher for core maths, English and science and some subjects and are taught by specialist teachers for the rest of our timetable. We are encouraged to think for ourselves, organise our own equipment and do our work as independently as possible. This may involve the use of specialist software and computers set up to meet our access needs.

Each year we undertake several trips out. Most of these support our cross -curricular topic work, allow us to continue learning outside the classroom and teach us to transfer skills to new situations.

We think making and maintaining friendships is what helps to make school days happy. Including all our classmates in conversations and activities is important to us, whatever our strengths and difficulties.

Class BE

BE is our specialist Key Stage 4 class, students have 2 tutors who look after their everyday needs and provide pastoral support when needed. The class are taught by a variety of specialist subject teachers as well as therapists, and work towards gaining a variety of qualifications at appropriate levels dependant on students’ individual ability and interests.

Students in Key Stage 4 have a full curriculum that covers core subjects Maths, English and Science plus ICT, French, Physical Education, PSD, Art and Design Technology. This is enhanced by Food Technology, Arts Award and Life Skills, where students are encouraged to look beyond the classroom towards their future lives and choices. Students also have swimming and physiotherapy and participate in the school’s Learning Enrichment Activity Programme every Friday. Where applicable, students also have access to occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, hydrotherapy, sensory activities, soundbeam and music therapy sessions.

Students in class BE have individualised timetables and access various lessons according to their ability. To find out more please contact us.
