Our Governors

Our Governors’ Board play a vital role in quality assurance as well as continually moving Victoria forwards. The Governors support the Principal and staff team throughout the year and are a regular part of the school community undertaking both social events and more formal school business.

John Pearce
(Foundation) Chair of Governors
Chair of Governors, Chair of Resources Committee and Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
John is a retired teacher who worked for a number of years at Victoria School as Deputy Headteacher. John and his wife are members of a local church and he is Chair of the Resources committee.

Julie Cox
(Foundation) Vice Chair
Vice Chair of Governors and Chair of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
Julie is a retired teacher and taught in local primary schools before joining the staff at VEC in 1997. She was a class teacher in the Lower School for fifteen years.

Adam Hyland
(Community Governor)

Jean Woods
(Community Governor)
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee and Safe-guarding Lead.
Jean worked as a frontline social worker and later as a manager in London Boroughs and in Hampshire. She worked with all client groups and especially in liaison work with the NHS. Since retiring to Hampshire Jean has followed her interests in dinghy sailing, walking, crafts and the arts, tempered with international travel. Having come across VEC through personal contacts, her interest in the education centre comes from her professional background and her delight in the VEC creative approach to education.

Colin van Schagen
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
Colin is a retired teacher having spent thirty years as a full-time classroom based teacher with the last seventeen years in a C.of E. primary school in Bournemouth. During that time he developed a keen interest in the creative arts and especially educational drama.Since retiring from full-time teaching he has been involved with supply and T.E.F.L. work and has volunteered to work with small groups in secondary schools with the Christian based M.A.R.S.group.At present he is involved with a local C of E Church as joint warden, server, part of preaching team and assisting with running Teddies (mother and child support group) based in our church hall.

Anne-Marie Costigan
(Foundation) – Livability Link Trustee
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee and Member of Resources Committee.
Anne-Marie Costigan is our Link Trustee and joined the LGB in September 2016. She is a member of the trustee’s Services Committee and is currently a part-time lecturer at Croydon Adult Education. Originally trained as a nurse, in both general and paediatric fields, she changed her career to teach adults wishing to pursue long held desires to become nurses or social workers. Anne-Marie is passionate about education and the English language and the importance of being able to communicate well and has specialised in literacy support. She is a Director of Larcombe Housing Association, a Christian home for the elderly.

Clair Dibblin
(Parent Governor)
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
Clair has been a parent at Victoria Education Centre since September 2006 and joined the governing board in 2011 to share her experiences of being a mother of a child with complex needs.  Clair finds her role as a parent governor very rewarding, giving her great insight into the running of the school whilst being valued for her knowledge and input.

Emily Sutton
(Parent Governor)
Member of Resources Committee.
Emily’s son Jenson attends class Explorers and it is by virtue of the wonderful progress that Jenson made in his first term at Victoria that propelled Emily into joining the Governing Body as a parent voice.  Emily works as an Internal Auditor to NHS Trusts across Dorset and neighbouring counties and also undertakes some charitable work with the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society.

Jen Williams
(Teacher’s Representative)
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
Jen has been a teacher representative on the governing body since January 2016. She has been teaching the Key Stage One class at Victoria Education Centre since January 2004.

Amy Hunt
(Non-teaching Representative)
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
Amy is the Education Team Leader for the lower school and has been in this role since September 2012. This includes responsibility for eSafety, overseeing and organising student lunchtime activities and line managing support staff. Amy joined the Governing body in Summer 2015.

Cllr. Mohan Iyengar
(Local Authority Governor)
Member of Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee.
Mohan is a local councillor and cabinet member in the Borough of Poole. His background includes 27 years in business – helping organisations to plan for the future and manage change. As one of the newer governors – joining in June 2017 – he looks forward to learning all aspects of the school’s activities. A particular focus will be to help the school in its discussions with external organisations, including the council.
