National Occupational Therapy Week

It’s National Occupational Therapy Week and as well as holding extra break time activities for students our ‘O.T. Crew’ held an informal drop in for staff after school yesterday. Staff had the opportunity to chat to the team highlighting the many facets of O.T. in education and how best VEC’s team can support staff in class. It was also an opportunity to discuss existing student’s needs and any recent issues arising. The team set up displays on sensory sessions, how some simple activities can bolster our student’s skills in dressing and tying shoe laces, developing pre-writing skills and developing fine motor skills and much more besides. As well as all this staff had the chance to try splint making and even have a go on a neater eater (which Andre found particularly tricky). It was a very informative session and shows how O.T. underpins our student’s day to day lives at VEC.

Today, parents and carers also had the opportunity to meet the team over a cup of tea in a well-attended morning session. Parents were able to discuss specific issues pertaining to their children in the home environment.
