Aspire Week

This week, our Post 16 classes have been taking part in ‘Aspire Week’, a week of timetabled activities to encourage students to think about future opportunities, raise aspirations, take part in an enterprise challenge and have a range of experiences out of their normal comfort zone.

We have had an excellent start to the week. As well as creating their own ’Vision boards’, the students have taken part in a talk by the Samee Project, who gave advice on starting a business and the road to self-employment. To this end, the students are running food, drink, and car washing enterprises. This morning we welcomed Joanne Small who gave an informative talk on apprenticeships and future career pathways. The week has also included some trips off site to Millie College for animal care and conservation sessions as well as a planned trip to Bournemouth University and some volunteering in the local Tesco. It hasn’t all been hard work though, on Monday we were entertained by ‘The Bittersweet Symphony Choir’ featuring a former student. With two days to go and much more to come, it has been great to see the students realising their potential and possible future careers.
