Congratulations to our student Carmela who completed her ‘poo plod’ – finishing her five-mile journey with a fanfare as she was welcomed back to school by students and staff.
Carmela, dressed as a toilet, accompanied by her mum in an inflatable poo costume, and supported by staff, students and parents, travelled to Bournemouth Pier and back to raise funds for accessible wash/dry toilets at the school.
Staff formed a guard of honour to mark her return to school at the end of the plod on Monday, 23 June, with friends and classmates cheering her on.
After completing the challenge, Carmela who recently become the youngest ever recipient of an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List, said she hoped it would draw attention to a cause that meant a lot to her personally.
‘From every step to every laugh, our “poo plod” paved the way to dignity, one toilet closer to change!’, she said.
So far, Carmela has raised more than £1,600 towards her fundraising goal. Having these facilities at school will enable students to go to the toilet independently, supporting their wellbeing and dignity.
Thank you to everyone who has supported so far. If you would like to donate, every contribution will make a difference. Visit Carmela’s JustGiving page.
