Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero

Massive congratulations to former VEC student and PE volunteer Gemma Mitchell, who was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2018 Unsung Hero Award for the South region last night. Gemma runs Victoria Community Boccia Club here at the school, a club that welcomes anyone with a disability in the local area to come and enjoy the para-sport of boccia. She has received the award in recognition of her commitment to the club, balanced alongside her degree studies and her busy schedule. She is truly an inspiration and we wish her the best of luck when she attends the National Sports Personality of the Year Awards in Birmingham on Sunday 16th December. A feature detailing the presentation of Gemma’s award will be shown on BBC South Today on Thursday 29th November.
