Sports Week Grand Prix Day

As Victoria’s Sports Week moves on apace, today was our eagerly anticipated Grand Prix Day. Again we have been so lucky with the weather this year and the Sun smiled down on us and the £2 Million worth of mean machines we had visiting. As you will see from the photos a wide range of motor vehicles attended including the Bat mobile! The students enjoyed sitting in the driving seat and revving the engines while the staff dreamed about shedding their jalopies and owning a Ferrari. One day! Anyway the serious business began after lunch when this year’s races started in earnest at around 1.30pm. Tony once again provided his excellent commentary fresh from the VIBE radio studio’s where he broadcast a Grand Prix special with work experience visitor and ex-student Maxine Moore. The spectators, some of whom are big friends of Victoria, cheered the students on while enjoying ice cream cones. She won’t like me mentioning it but it was also staff member Trish Turle’s birthday! The results are just in and the winner of this years propelled race was Sam Bird with Ben Bridges zooming home first in the self-propelled category. Another fantastic day with many people to thank, so thank you to Coles-Miller for supplying the trophy and banners, the Parkstone Golf Club Members for trusting us with their cars, Hughes International for loaning us their awesome motors and Can Am for bringing some legendary American models with them. Finally all our thanks to the PE crew and especially Martin Cook and Paula Allcroft for organising.
