Sports Week

At the end of last week we rounded off our sports week activities which we had to curtail due to our inspection. Thursday the weather was a little iffy but we managed to dodge the showers and hold our “Splat” event. Splat was a water based activity where competing teams used water pistols to shoot targets and score points. We also held a balloon volleyball tournament.  In the afternoon we held the finals of our hot air balloon challenge. Classes have been busy making their own design hot air balloons during the previous week. The winners were class LB for their fantastic design using a portable hoist.

Friday the sun came out just in time for our sensory fete which our students enjoyed immensely. The fete was organised by our Post 16 class Arne and included a coconut shy, a giant Ker Plunk! and lots of sensory activities. Next up was the “Velcro man rock climbing competition” again classes have been busy over the past week making Velcro mountaineers to use. The mini Velcro men were then catapulted and thrown onto the Velcro mountain and whoever’s stuck the highest, won. For the throwers, Ben Povey took the prize with Cameron Herridge winning with the catapult. To round off the day we had a wheelchair hockey game with students from across the school taking part which finished with a penalty shootout. The week came to an end with the sports week assembly where all our winners were announced. Class Furzey won the trophy for “Class of the Week” for their outstanding input during this year’s sports week.

We would like to thank our amazing sports and swimming staff: Hannah Parry, Martin Cook, Alison Dougal, Hannah Powis, Rhian Best, Dan Cook, Jason Ganner, Tracey Payne, Sharon Pritchett and Gemma Mitchell for putting on such a diverse and fun week.
