Tuesday 15th May 2018 – Motor Activity Training Programme Celebration Event for Green Island and Rainbows Students

Our fantastic students from Green Island and Rainbows celebrated the work they have been doing as part of a Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP). Here  Special Olympics UK have teamed up with the Youth Sport Trust to launch the MATP and Dorset are one of the counties that have piloted this initiative and we are excited to be one of the lead schools in the county.

The MATP is designed to prepare students with severe or profound intellectual disability, including students with significant physical disabilities, for sport-specific activities appropriate for their abilities. During lessons we have selected many activities where our students are encouraged to initiate physical movement in a sports setting and I am proud to say they have progressed fantastically well during the programme.

It was superb to celebrate the success of the students where they were able to show off the skills they have been working on to their class teams and some visiting parents. I personally would like to congratulate all involved and thank all supporting staff that have enabled such positive physical activity during our lessons.
